As If It Can't Happen

• Production on Bird Turds took a little hiatus in the last week as I have been bird-sitting for an actual bird. His name is Turf, and he is hilarious. My responsibilities included making sure he had plenty of food and water, and protecting him from webcomic cats who wanted to eat him.

• Yesterday I woke up and made myself some fuckin' Franch toast.

• Glenn O'Brien, who, as you may know, is kind of a hero of mine, has his "10 Essentials" up over at Men.Style.com. I would've put this up sooner, but the website itself, with all of its popups and ads and crazy layout and color scheme is like the least stylish website I know of. I mean. I read it a lot. But it's so busy and distracting that I feel a little weird linking to it and in doing so foisting it upon my seven readers.

• My man Jush - who no longer reads this blog since he found this other blog - maintains that hip-hop died along with Biggie Smalls. For the record, I don't agree, but I begrudgingly respect his position. So the other day this dude DJ Semi put out Ready to Die: The O.G. Edition, which has demos, original beats, uncleared samples, and unheard lyrics from Frank White's debut LP, which serves to breathe new life into a certified classic and, for listeners like Jush, an entire genre.

Now With More About Books and Rap

• I don't know much, but I do know this: when Future Self wakes up tomorrow - at which point he will be Present Self - and sees that Present Self - who, by the same token, will have become Past Self - put a Doubleshot™ in the fridge he's gon' be full-on stoked.

• So I walked into this place Domy Books the other day. They got a good selection of art books and comic collections and a pretty decent fine art / street art high / low aesthetic. I guess. They were listening to Egg Radio, which was playing okay blog rock. It was at the same time pretty cool as well as further evidence that "hip" remains at a weird little stagnant standstill. (Full disclosure: they weren't hiring.)

• The Roc Boys trailer > the Roc Boys video.

• Somewhat related: A DVD collection of Busta Rhymes videos does not exist. I mean. As near as I can tell. Which is bullshit. Nobody ever worked a fisheye lens like Bus-a-Bus.

Here's a piece that Lynda Barry wrote about the paintbush. To be honest, I'm not that into this article. I only put it on here because Lynda Barry wrote Cruddy, and Cruddy is a Higginbotham classic.

• You can now pay like 150 bucks for a watch I've been wearing for four years and paid thirteen dollars for. Only yours'll maybe be black. And will have cost you like 150 bucks.

• How weird is it that both Fosto (premier soon!) and the Rai Chile (bring it back!) have the same birthday? It's today. I'm putting up the King of Eweep for his birthday, as he is turning at least 100 years old. I think Rainuts is just going to sit at his house and eat healthy foodstuffs.

• The above picture comes from a Hedi Slimane picture gallery that I found through this blog called Dirty Down. If you click the picture I put up here, good shit happens, I think, but before you back back through every other picture I've ever uploaded, this is the first one that does anything. So far.

• Steampunks are a weird-ass group of people. This much we know to be true. But it never let it be said that they're not industrious as all hell. (How long, do you think, before this guy inadvertently turns himself into C3PO?)

• I would like to call attention to the fact that I have invented a new word: "Embonered." (Embonered, adj. 1. To be stoked on, or to have a hard-on about someone or some thing. "The new Lil Wayne mixtape has me fully embonered, nullus." 2. Actually being in the state of having a boner. "You ready? I'm embonered.")

• Miraculously, The White Stripes have emerged victorious in the time-honored game of "Endure the Obnoxious Shithead Canadian."

• From the Finally File (Cross-referenced with the Nobody Cares Anymore But Me File): Jim Greco gets Epicly Later'd.

• Just Blaze has one long track with like four songs from Jay Electronica, who, despite having a wackass rap name, is actually dope as fuck.

Utah, Get Me Two

• I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. First, I'm almost positive that I have used the "Utah, Get Me Two" title line before, but I am too lazy to confirm or deny that suspicion. Second, I'm about to embed a YouTube link that I, again, may have included before, either as a link or as an embed, in some incarnation of this blog. So, either way: Gary Busey talking about Hunter S. Thompson (kind of) rules. (I mean, it totally rules. But he's only kind of talking about Hunter S. Thompson.)

• The Style Guy, whom I linked to last time, has a blog. People should pay more attention to this dude. Basquiat liked him. How bad can he be? (Also: when is that DVD coming out? Has it already? Somebody buy it for me.)

• Nahright has the new 50 Cent single all ZShare'd up. Predictably, it sucks. But if you're a hip-hop blogger, it is your sworn duty to track the every move of Curtis Jackson. So whatever. But maybe I'm crazy, because it seems like there was a time when you could have been pretty legitimately stoked on 50. Like, Power of the Dollar? "How to Rob?" Come on! I guess I just hate it when anybody exhibits shit-hot levels of potential and then doesn't ever do anything with it worth a fuck because it reminds me of myself.

• I have more work to do than I can stand. It's going to be a couple days.

Good Sand Here

• So Higginslax says she likes it when I make one of those posts that's like a nonfiction account of my day-to-day with links in the text to, like, humorously illustrate the goings-on. As much as I'd like to cater to my readership (of which Higginbotham constitutes, I think, like a third), such a post would necessitate that I did some shit during the course of my day, which, lately, has not been the case. I did take a three hour nap earlier. Does that count? Oh and also I was in class earlier today - because I am the world's second-oldest undergrad - and the dude behind me gave me a copy of his zine which is somehow involved with this website \ concept called "lation."

• CFY,K endorses: this light blue denim shirt, which they're calling "chambray." If you're like me, then most of your clothing comes from the Gap sale rack. Because you're into basic looking stuff but you don't want to drop seventy dollars on undershirts. And then sometimes you buy a light blue denim shirt so you can stunt around town like you're Ralph Lauren or some shit. That's what I've been doing.

• CFY,K denounces: the ugliest shoes ever.

New friend, new look.

• I was thinking today about how weird it is to have a blog, and you get self-conscious about stuff like noticing that like every damn hip-hop blog in the past few days has been posting that UGK & Outkast video and, more recently, the new T.I. featuring Wyclef video, and you think that if you post them then you're being unoriginal. But then, like, you have to assume, on some level, that it's not just bloggers that read blogs, and perhaps the people who read your blog don't read everyone else's because they're counting on you to do it for them, so you feel sort of bad if you don't direct your own readers' attention to those things. (So then, if you're me, you decide to have links to 'em, but to not embed 'em and to let them find about the weird Saigon \ Just Blaze album delay beef on their own.)
