Bird Turds #16

• The above is Bird Turds number sixteen, "Turd of Prey part one of two." But you knew that, because it says that. Not to overanalyze it or anything (that's more of a me and S. Higginbotham telephone activity, anyway), but I, like, learned some valuable lessons while making this one. Chiefly, that the grey Pentel brush pen will not magically turn you into Will Eisner. But then I also learned / decided that it would be better to present it as is than it would be after photoshopping the shit out of it.

• And now, "A Conversation Between The Devil Himself and an Imagined Reader, Part One of Two."

IR: What's going on with everything being presented in two parts today?
{Here The Devil Himself mumbles unintelligibly and takes a drag from a Camel light. Camel lights are not his brand, it should be noted, but he got the pack for free so whatever.}
IR: Um. Okay. I was really wondering whether or not you were going to embed the season three premier of the Venture Bros on CFY,K.
TDH: I am abosolutely not going to do that, based soley on the idea that I don't want the new Bird Turds to be completely outclassed on its own shit. But you should totally watch it. It's awesome as hell.
IR: Anything else?
TDH: Um. Yes. Those shirts you want totally exist. Mine's on the way.

• I was wondering how long it was going to take Glenn O'Brien to do a full-on Warhol issue of Interview. (Caution! Clicking the "Interview" link will cause browser-resizing and annoying audio.) And now I know. (I'm not hating. If you're going to do a full-on Warhol issue of anything, it ought to be Interview, and you ought to be Glenn O'Brien.)

• And now, "A Conversation Between The Devil Himself and an Imagined Reader, Part Two of Two."

IR: I heard that Tha Carter III leaked.
TDH: So?
IR: So are you going to post a link to it?
TDH: No way. Buy that shit. Wale's new mixtape is for free and it's awesome. Go get that.

It's Too Hot To Think Straight

• I always forget that magazines are sold by the celebrities on their covers. I'm weirdly loyal to several publications, based on various reasons, so I generally don't care who's on the cover at all. But then the other day I bought a Paste Magazine - which I typically hate because it reminds me of an old dude at a rock show with like a meticulously maintained haircut - solely because the White Stripes were on the cover. I've talked about this before, like how White Stripes interviews are so off-putting because of how normal Jack White seems. But also, you spend the whole interview waiting on Meg White to drop some essential truth like she's Silent Bob or some shit. And sometimes she does. But she usually keeps quiet, which makes for great tension.

• Lately all I've been doing is drawing pictures and thinking about drawing pictures. So I think that the rest of this post is going to be about comics and illustration and drawing and crap.

• Are you guys reading the weekly Yikes that Fantagraphics puts up? You ought to be. Weissman rules.

• This is the best three seconds you'll have all day.

• My favorite Hernandez bro, Gilbert - Thee Famous Person's favorite is Jaime, who also rules, but I only mention it because FP's mad that she doesn't get mentioned more often on this blog - has a new comic out on Dark Horse that I'd like to read. But I can't because the comic book store in my town closed. Dark Horse is also involved with this web comic called "Sugarshock," but I'm not linking to it on GP, but it's worth reading, so you should find it and do so.

• Paul Pope has a new book out. (Someone out to be it for me since I'm about to officially be old as all hell, ha ha.) Paul Pope is my hero. You can tell he uses a brush in a lot of his work, and I wonder how he does that. I am scared of the brush.

Show Full Size & Shrink To Fit

• Q: How many times do you have to take a bath wearing your jeans?
A: As many as it takes, man.

• Is Format Magazine awesome? Or is it just like another one of those Hypebeast + Mass Appeal X The Fader = Random Colorful Hipster Nonsense deals? (Aren't we done with all that shit by now? The Devil Himself wears jeans and white tee shirts as a personal form of fashion protest.) I don't know. You tell me. (And while I'm at it, my new issue of The Fader needs to go 'head and get here.)

• The other day the kid Holotone - locally famous for the early epic Raichile battles - sent me a link to the kickass part of a terrible film. I'm into it.

• Rilo Kiley, as a band, has finally found its true purpose: letting the world know that pornstars are just as boring as indie rockers. (NSFW, kind of. I don't know. Maybe it's SFW, but probably not. It depends on where you work, really. Where I work, which is nowhere, it's perfectly safe.)

• This one I saved till the end. Because it's worth it. I usually hate childhood-nostalgia stuff, because what the hell, you know? If I'm already going to do something as weirdly childish as having a blog, then I at least shouldn't blog about childhood crap, right? This one, though. It's too good. Remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the king shit lookout and it was nuts and they had that promotional deal with Pizza Hut but there was no Pizza Hut nearby so you had to beg your mom to drive you ass out to Pizza Hut when they released that tape by that "band" that was supposed to be, on some level, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themselves? Remember that?
