Tran Trance Chance Dance

• Today's top story: Pilot Skateboards' own Corey Dowds was recently interviewed on Good Morning America. And so now he's famous.

• In other news, FancyNerds everywhere will believe it when they see it.

• Also, Enormasurus - the world's greatest make-believe band - has been one-upped by the cats at Superdeluxe. Pun intended, ho's.

• It's a short post. I'm on the phone.

March Madness: Frontrunners and Upsets

• I have been recently overwhelmed with new music that I really like, which is an invigorating feeling. I have, therefore, decided to issue the CFY,K Official Early Picks for The Best Song of 2007. They are as follows:

Rehab, by Amy Winehouse, which is exactly the song that should have come out this year. Me and Thee Famousperson were talking last year about how this sort of thing couldn't have been far off, since the best box set evar came out. (That's right, Nuggets. I said it.) Winehouse and producer Mark Ronson get shit absolutely right, ending up with pitch-perfect pop awesomeness.

Imagine, by Lil Wayne, is a mixtape cut, during which the incredibly-prolific Weezy F. Baby raps over the same beat from Nas' If I Ruled the World. This track earns its spot based on this one moment where, if this was the "original," Lauryn Hill would come in on the chorus, but it's not the original, and we're left with Wayne simply stating, voice drenched in nihilism, "Get high, screw the world." And it's the best rap line I've heard since "I need vegetables \ Is weed vegetables?"

New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down, by LCD Soundsystem. This song's placement on this list may owe significantly to the idea that I have lately been obsessed with songs that are excellent night-enders. This song is an excellent anything-ender.

What do you guys think? Certainly, according to you, I have left something out.

Dorkin' Out On St. Patrick's Day

• Thee Famous Person, in the midst of meeting up with old friends and Grupthink denizens, was, apparently, at the same show as the Status Ain't Hood guy.

• I have been dying to play a little Man Cup lately. Also, I caved today on my new FFF (that's "Fast Food Free") lifestyle. That Big Bacon Classic had no idea what it was in for. Afterwards, though, I felt the dirty guilt.

• You probably saw it on Pitchfork already and everything, fine, but damned if that Crayola commercial with the Animal Collective soundtrack isn't the best, like, thirty seconds on television.

• I went and saw 300 last night. Epic? Yes, it was epic. Somewhat uncomfortable due to the costume department's reliance on leather briefs? Yes, it was somewhat uncomfortable due to that. (Raichile, for the record, has been searching for leather briefs for some time now. To match his harness.)

• I found this webpage the other day with the thirteen most beautiful avatars on Second Life. Suspiciously Absent: "Devself Ay." I guess you have to be a supertan dude with bushy eyebrows to apply. What are these guys? Brothers? (Typing this shit is cracking me up.)

• Ok ok ok. I gotta go research magical realism and read a book.

• The above photo is one still frame (Photoshopped a little, yeah) from what was once like the Rolling Stones Holy Grail before the dawn of the internet age.

• As a registered FancyNerd, I am obsessed both by documentaries and typefaces. As such, it is my duty, in some way, to want terribly to see this movie.

• Did you guys know that international weirdo Momus has a column over on the Wired website? Yeah, me neither. But he does.

• Lately old Higginbotham has, from what I understand, been spilling diet sodas on herself and poking out her eyeballs. She sent me some links the other day for me to look at. I have to tell you. I don't know what it is. The websites in question appear to be written in English, and yet I find them impossible to decipher.

• The Rai Chile has an excellent new plan. This is me encouraging the shit out of it. ("Yes!" "Go for it!" "What, really, have you got to lose on this one?" I have said all of these things.) I see your doubts. I can feel them from here. But that shit was a mockumentary, yo! (This is going to be great.)

• Biggie died ten years ago today, and he's still the illest. XXL put up this unreleased Pepsi commercial he did. It's pretty cool. But I think you ought to spend the whole day listening to Life After Death.

• The White Stripes are going to have a new record out "as soon as corporately possible." This is me not being able to wait.

• Here's something I know about the Rai Chile: he is far from being a sneakerhead. (Which is good. Who's a sneakerhead anymore, anyway?) I know this. But I don't care. He NEEDS these shits like Thee Famous Person needs this shit!

• I'm trying to get a post up today before the bottom falls out the sky. Things outside are looking rough, ladies and gentlemen. I been hearing about hail, man.

• The boy Jush came up yesterday on a solo surprise mission. Some Radocasting ensued despite vicious intermittent accordion attacks. (We also saw a guy get straight punched in the balls. The incident literally stopped traffic.)

• In related news: y'all heard about Pacman Jones, right? And all that nonsense he got himself into at a titty bar? Well. Luckily, Enormasaurus, the world's greatest make-believe band, got together last night and recorded an a capella interpretation of the incident. Kind of. Here it is. It rules.

• From the "In Case You Missed It" File: Byron Crawford, who may well be the hardest working man on the internet, keeps a little stash house of those mercurial items that show up and then get promptly deleted from the internets. That Joe Rogan VS Carlos Mencia thing? He's got you! You need to hear that new Guns 'N Roses joint? Say no more, man.

• Some news for the FancyNerds out there: the fine folks over at Inkstuds put up a Jamie Hernandez interview not too long ago.

• There is, as always, more to come. But not today. It's going to rain real hard and I have a ton of work to do.

Oh, No! Trance Music!

• You are now dealing with the product of a Second-Skype session with Thee Famous Person. (Get your dork on!)

• Me and Ruth spent like three hours the other day trying to make a podcast for you guys. What do you want me to tell you? It didn't work out.

• This is the best Sample Wednesday ever. It's worth it just for the "Cola Bottle Baby" joint.

• Ukulele master Michael Leviton has an amazing new video.

• Other than that, I've been spending my geek-out time attending poetry readings and waiting for new Dipset \ G-Unit shots. (Find it yourself.)

Meaning You Don't Pay No Rent

• Although, if everything goes according to plan, this shit will only effect my life for like a month. What's that? Oh, yeah. There's totally a plan. Kind of.

• Shamanzo has accused your boy, in the past, of only liking things anymore involving female lead singers. In response to this, I offer the following: a new M.I.A. video, a longish Amy Winehouse profile (don't sleep!), and some exciting news regarding Cocorosie.

• Bacon aside, Rainuts came up for a visit this weekend.

• Um. Yes.

• Did you hear that? That was Jush's sharp intake of air, followed by a long exhalation. I think that he may have been saying "Finally." (NSFW)

How Much Tha Mobb Sold, Curtis?

•
You've heard this, I imagine. (I subjected Ruth to the whole thing on the car ride home the other day, ha ha.) But whatever.

• I don't have a whole lot for you on this post, besides the above hilarious picture of one Gigglestick Magillicutty. I was back home all weekend, watching high-dollar commercials and eating a metric ton of snack food.

• The boy Jush got himself a Radocaster. Mind-blowing face-melters are soon to emerge from Camdonia.

• Something for to look at: the "on-onedness" of Luca Tieri.

• It used to be just an every-once-in-a-while-I-could-go-for-one thing, but now, according to my policy of co-signing everything Hov related, for good (really good), ill (bad meaning bad), or just okay, the staff here at CFY,K is now drinking Cherry Coke instead of Cristal.

• Venture Bros season 2 doesn't come out till damn April. Here's some DVD artwork to get your mouth a-waterin'.

• Hey, The Hard Goodbye's playing at Good Hurt tonight. They will kill. If you're in the LA area, go there. Make friends with the hot ass bartender ladies. Know that I wish I was there.

• Get money, Shamanz.

I Think I Came This Way Before

• I think the thing that bothers me the most about "emo," as a subculture, is that you can't even bitch about it. You certainly can't blog about it without becoming part of the problem.

On the one hand, you know, it seems like "emo" has held on long enough. Collectively, they've endured enough ridicule over the past five or six years that now we, the People of Earth, are supposed to accept these backwards-hairs as legitimate and viable, and incorporate minute aspects of their thing into our thing. At the least, they've become an old saw. Stale subject matter. Much in the same way that criticizing the president has become, as of late, a little passé.

And then again, on the other hand, when you go out of your way to deride "emo," you put yourself in the same position as, say, Hova did we he formally addressed his Dipset beef: you kind of lose just for involving yourself at all. To extend this line of thought, though, I have to say I think I feel like Jay must have felt. On some "fuck that, I'm hatin'!"

• So. Anyway. 30 Seconds to Mars. What the hell is the deal with 30 Seconds to Mars? I have been aware of their existence for some time now, you know. But I never paid them no nevermind. I just added them to the already exhaustive list of Things That Emo Has Ruined. (That One Guy From Fight Club Who Used To Be On TV is now listed officially at number one hundred and thirty-eight, well below such entires as "tattoos" and "Rolling Stone magazine."(Because he kind of always sucked anyway.))

Then last night their video came on. The shit is epic as hell. Not necessarily good-epic, but epic all the same. I would bet that this little five minute clip had at least twice the budget of Prefontaine.

Great, I'm thinking, "emo" finally has its Thriller.

• Speaking of "emo," though. Higginbotham maintains that if you're lonely at your computer and you feel like you need a hug but there's no one around, then Cute Overload will hold it down for you. I'm inclined to agree. (Happy birthday, Higginblatt.)
